about

I’m Megan, and welcome to my cookbook blog!

I’ve been obsessed with cookbooks for most of my life—definitely since before I knew how to cook AND before I ate most vegetables. Why? I’ve always seen food as a link between people or between times/places. I learned how to use Microsoft Word when I assembled my first family cookbook at age 7, and I cut my teeth in InDesign in college when I created a full-color, updated version of that same collection of family recipes.

As you can guess, I’m a longtime fan of food blogs, but, for me, nothing replaces the curated, tactile experience of paging through and cooking from a cookbook. I’ve blogged about food in the past (food photography is a passion of mine!), but as I’ve grown into my adult years, I realized I get a lot more enjoyment out of cooking someone else’s recipes than from writing my own.

So here I am! This blog is a space where I can challenge myself to cook delicious things from the many cookbooks I own and rent from the library. Each post will be a small roundup of recipes I’ve cooked from a particular book, along with my thoughts on the book and the recipes. I will probably revisit the same books a few times, but my goal is to cook from as wide a range of books in my library as possible.

Special interests include Italian, vegan, and Minnesotan cooking, but I am open to anything, especially more complicated “weekend project” sorts of recipes. I hope to improve my skills in bread making and plating, and hopefully I’ll start incorporating more fish and seafood into my repertoire.

Thanks for following along in my lifelong passion!
